Return To Ommadawn
In late 2015, Oldfield began promoting a new instrumental album on social media, similar to his most legendary works. This album was based on an earlier work much loved by his fans: Ommadawn, and was titled Return to Ommadawn. Composed with his usual guitars, keyboards, and percussion, the album featured two long folk-style sections. After overcoming some technical difficulties due to Hurricane Matthew's passage through the Bahamas, the album was released on January 20, 2017. Overall, the album was very well received by both critics and the public. Its folk tone and the handcrafted way in which it was conceived were highly praised. At 42 minutes long, the album included a good number of melodies supported by a considerable variety of guitars and percussion. The album's tone bears a striking resemblance to its predecessor: it features frequent tempo changes and an ending that is a variation of their classic track "On Horseback" in the form of a Celtic rondo. Sales of the album were also positive. Return to Ommadawn reached number four in the UK and number three in Germany. In Spain, it reached number one and was certified gold.
