Man On The Rocks

Following his involvement in the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics, Oldfield re-signed with his longtime record label, Virgin Records, which had been acquired by EMI in 1992. The artist resumed giving interviews and discussed a new album, which was released in March 2014. The album was primarily rock-influenced, incorporating elements of other musical subgenres. For the recording of this album, titled Man on the Rocks, he once again enlisted his personal assistant, Caroline Monk, with whom he had previously worked in the late 1990s. The songs were predominantly rock, featuring Oldfield's now-legendary electric guitar work. All tracks are sung by Luke Spiller, lead singer of the English band The Struts. The songs blend rock, pop, and some even incorporate elements of folk and electronic music. In addition, a personal version of the religious song "I Give Myself Away" by William McDowell was included. The deluxe edition included instrumental versions of all the tracks and demos, performed by Oldfield himself.
